By KimberTec Design Team
Limited square footage doesn't mean limited storage. With smart planning, even the smallest bathroom can be organized, functional, and clutter-free.
1. Recessed Storage (Built Into the Walls)
Why waste the space between your studs?
- Shower niches: Built-in shelving for shampoo and soap (12-16" wide, 3-4" deep)
- Medicine cabinets: Recessed into the wall above the sink saves counter space
- Toilet alcoves: Recessed shelving above or beside the toilet
2. Floating Vanities with Smart Storage
Wall-mounted vanities create the illusion of more space while offering storage:
- Soft-close drawers with dividers for organization
- Pull-out shelves for easy access
- Under-sink storage with cutouts for plumbing
3. Vertical Space is Your Friend
- Tall, narrow cabinets: Floor-to-ceiling storage with a small footprint
- Floating shelves: Above the toilet, beside the vanity, or in corners
- Ladder shelves: Stylish and functional, leans against the wall
- Over-the-door organizers: For towels, robes, or cleaning supplies
4. Utilize Dead Space
- Corner shelves/cabinets: Triangular units fit where nothing else does
- Over-the-toilet storage: Cabinets or shelving units designed to fit around the toilet
- Behind the door: Hooks, towel bars, or shallow shelving
5. Hidden Storage Solutions
- Mirror cabinets: Full-width medicine cabinets behind the entire mirror
- Tilt-out trays: False drawer fronts under the sink tilt out for sponge storage
- Toe-kick drawers: Shallow drawers at floor level below cabinets
- Built-in hampers: Pull-out laundry basket built into cabinetry
6. Choose Dual-Purpose Fixtures
- Vanity mirrors with storage: Integrated shelving on the sides or bottom
- Shower benches with storage: Lift-top bench conceals toiletries
- Towel bars that double as grab bars: Safety + function
Small Bathroom Storage Rules
- Go up, not out: Use wall space instead of floor space
- Keep it shallow: 3-6" deep shelves don't intrude into the room
- Use clear organizers: Helps you see what you have at a glance
- Edit ruthlessly: Only store what you actually use regularly
- Match your finishes: Cohesive colors make the space feel larger
